Mikhail Chemiakin (b. 1943) Russian, Surrealist Lithograph Print "Circus Performers". A surrealist composition with cubist influences depicting two costumed figures in the lower right with strange, dreamlike imagery surrounding them. Signed lower right. Numbered 282/300, lower left. Framed.

Mikhail Chemiakin (b. 1943) is a Russian-born artist known for his surreal and symbolic paintings, sculptures, and stage designs. A leading figure in nonconformist Soviet art, he developed the "Metaphysical Synthesism" movement, blending elements of surrealism, cubism, and classical influences to explore themes of history, mythology, and human nature. Due to his avant-garde style, Chemiakin faced censorship in the USSR and was exiled to France in 1971 before later settling in the United States. His work, often characterized by distorted figures and dreamlike imagery, has been exhibited worldwide, and his public sculptures, such as The Children—Victims of the Adults' Vices in Moscow, remain powerful social commentaries.
