Mata Ortiz Pottery Jar, signed on bottom: Arturo Ledezma Velez. Highly detailed design in an overall geometric pattern, brown and black on a cream ground. Condition: tiny chip on rim. Mata Ortiz potter Arturo Ledezma Veloz was an early influencer in the renaissance developing in northern Mexico. He is listed in The Miracle of Mata Ortiz, 1st and 2nd ed., and four of his pieces are featured in The Many Faces of Mata Ortiz, p. 103. (One of the larger photographs features an olla very similar to the one offered here.) Size: 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 in.
