She graduated at 18 from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in San Francisco and went to Europe, but after a year she realized that fashion was not her primary passion. She began to travel through Europe, North Africa, and Asia taking photographs and researching ancient cultures, particularly their religions, philosophy, and aspects of animism. She became an acclaimed humanitarian photographer, and is a member of the exclusive Explorer’s Club. Lisa has also addressed audiences at the United Nations, Nobel Summits, Davos, and the Vatican, and her work has received endorsements from Pope Francis, The Dalai Lama, and Amnesty International. She received the Lucie Humanitarian Award, the Global Sustainability Hero Award, and the IUTP Award from the Photographic Society of America. In 2017 Lisa founded the Human Thread Foundation, a non-profit organization aimed at eradicating human trafficking and promoting human dignity. She has been the subject of four documentaries, and her work on slavery is featured in three films.
