"Falsettos" is a renowned musical created by William Finn and James Lapine, exploring the complexities of love, family, and identity within a Jewish family in late 1970s and early 1980s New York City. The narrative follows Marvin, who leaves his wife Trina for his lover Whizzer, and the ensuing dynamics as they all navigate evolving relationships and the looming AIDS crisis. The musical has been staged by various theater groups, including a notable co-production by Chicago's Court Theatre and TimeLine Theatre Company in late 2024. This collaboration was praised for its contemporary relevance and the ensemble's compelling performances.

Keith Haring (1958-1990) was an American artist known for his bold, graffiti-inspired pop art that conveyed social and political messages. Emerging from New York City’s street art scene in the 1980s, he created dynamic, cartoon-like figures, often using bright colors and thick black lines. His work addressed issues such as AIDS awareness, apartheid, and LGBTQ+ rights, blending activism with accessibility. Haring’s public murals and collaborations made his art widely recognizable, and his foundation continues to support charitable causes. His influence remains strong in contemporary art and popular culture.
