Sight Size: 21 1/2 x 17 1/2 in.Kaoru Kawano (1916–1965) was a Japanese artist known for his modern sōsaku hanga (creative print) woodblock prints, which blended traditional Japanese techniques with contemporary design. Born in Hokkaido, he gained recognition in the mid-20th century for his stylized depictions of children and women, often characterized by bold shapes, delicate textures, and a masterful use of negative space. Kawano’s works reflect influences from both Western modernism and Japanese folk art, creating a distinctive aesthetic that appealed to international audiences. Despite his relatively short career, his prints remain highly regarded and continue to be collected worldwide.
