J. & L. Lobmeyr Enameled Art Nouveau Glass Vase. Hand painted with colors of red, blue, green, yellow, white and gold gilt. Ruffled flower pedal rim and rectangular body. Unsigned.
Condition: Excellent.

J. & L. Lobmeyr is a glassware company founded by Josef Lobmeyr in Vienna, Austria in 1823, with the current name adopted by his children Joseph and Ludwig after Josef’s death in 1855. Joseph became the marketing director and his uncle Louis managed the art department, with Ludwig developing direct relationships with Bohemian glassworks, royal estates, and even Thomas Edison. In 1917 the death of Louis meant that the company was left to his nephew, Stefan Rath, who expanded their clientele worldwide. Their Art Nouveau designs and high quality stemware, vases, and servingware are prized both for their enduring elegance and the part they play in the history of glassmaking throughout Southern and Eastern Europe in the late 19th and early 20th Century. Today the company is still family owned, run by Rath’s grandchildren Andreas, Leonis, and Johannes.
