Henri Carnier (1800-1868) British, Oil on Canvas Cityscape. Oil on canvas cityscape depicting the Grand Canal of Venice, with the Basilica de Santa Maria visible in the distance. Signed lower right. Framed.
Overall Size: 16 x 11 in.
Sight Size: 12 x 7 in.
Henri Carnier (1800–1868) was a British artist renowned for his evocative oil paintings, often depicting Venetian canals, Middle Eastern street scenes, and North African vistas. His works have been featured in various auctions, with realized prices ranging from $570 to $3,465, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. Notably, some of his paintings are believed to be the work of Austrian artist Karl Kaufmann (1843–1905), who frequently used pseudonyms, including 'Henri Carnier.' This practice has led to some ambiguity in attributing certain artworks.
