Graciela Cordova (b. 1947) Chilean, Abstract Wrought Iron Bull Statue. Curled pieces for the horns, with a delicate diminishing base. Artist's label on base (some scuffing).

Graciela Córdova was born on July 19th, 1947 in Santiago de Chile. Living in one of the largest cities in the Americas introduced her to art at a very young age, and between 1965 and 1969 she studied at the School of Fine Arts of the University of Chile, where she learned sculpture from Marta Colvin and painting from José Balmes. In 1970 she traveled to London, England to work as an assistant to sculptor Félix Maruenda, then returned to Chile a year later to work in ceramics with Professor Guillermo Brito. In 1973 she began working with the painter Gracia Barrios on the mural tapestry for the UNTAD Building. This garnered her national acclaim, and she spent the next decade exploring both painting and sculpting, eventually gravitating towards the latter medium. In 1986 she furthered her ceramic studies with the sculptor Francisca Cerda, who helped her establish her own workshop two years later in the commune of Buin. Since 1989 she has been making ornaments for architects (stairs, railings, handles, lamps and lanterns) as well as lecturing on the overlap between sculpture and architectural design. In 1990 she held her first solo exhibition of furniture and wrought iron crafts at the Parque Arauco Mall in Santiago. Together with José Balmes, Gracia Barrios, Concepción Balmes, Bororo, Silvia Castro, Félix Maruenda, Rodrigo Jiménez, and Manola Maruenda she mounted the exhibition called NOSOTROS in 2003, and was invited to participate in another collective exhibition in homage to the deceased sculptor Ricardo Mesa, where she presented an acrylic on canvas. In October 2004 she won first prize in a competition at the Las Condes Clinic, Santiago de Chile, who placed her sculpture in the main courtyard of the Clinic the following year. Graciela Córdova’s works are permanently on display and for sale in the three museum houses of the Neruda Foundation, in the Puro Amor store, and in her workshop where she keeps her largest collection and keeps the art of traditional forging alive.
