Ferenc Vörös (1931-2019) Hungarian, (2) Figural Ink and Watercolor on Paper. One depicts a child reading in bed, the other a contemplative woman. Both signed bottom left. Both titled bottom right. Horizontal piece dated '95, vertical piece dated '94. Both with original gallery labels on back.

Ferenc Vörös was born in Sárvár, Hungary on January 12th, 1931. His childhood during World War II was difficult and traumatic, and he found solace in art in his early teens. He gravitated towards sketching and watercolors, mainly figural compositions, as well as portraits and landscapes. He graduated from the Secondary School of Economics in Szombathely in 1950, then studied at the Teacher Training College in Pécs, graduating in 1954 with a dual degree in Drawing and History. It was here that he developed his affinity and adherence to Post-Impressionist techniques. His primary art teachers were Lajos György Budai, Ignácné Kokas, and Elemér Soltra. He returned to Sárvár, where he began entering work into group exhibitions, notably in Budapest, and he had his first solo show at Nádasdy Castle in 1972, which was sponsored by the Soviet Cultural Department. In 1975 he began teaching at Kanizsai Dorottya High School in Szombathely, eventually retiring in 1995. For the rest of his life he routinely offered lectures to secondary schools throughout Hungary, and he has been cited as an influence by dozens of artists, teachers, architects, and designers from Eastern Europe for his encouragement, including Barbara Büki, Anna Czebula, and János Kondor. The last twenty years of his life were spent in graphic design, as he participated in several artists colonies from Tokaj to Balatonkenese and illustrated over 100 books, both fiction and non-fiction. Since the fall of the Soviet Union his work has become more accessible and appreciated around the world, and can be found in private collections in the United States, Europe, and Asia. His work is on permanent display at the National Pedagogical Institute in Hungary, and after he died on March 19th, 2019 his home town created a permanent retrospective exhibition in his honor.
