Ernie Barnes (1938–2009) was an American artist and former professional football player renowned for his distinctive style that captured the vibrancy and dynamism of Black life. Born in Durham, North Carolina, Barnes displayed a passion for art from an early age but also excelled in sports, eventually playing in the NFL during the 1960s. After retiring from football, he pursued art full-time, developing his signature style of elongated figures in motion, often depicted in everyday or celebratory scenes. His most famous work, The Sugar Shack, gained global recognition after appearing on the TV show Good Times and the cover of Marvin Gaye's album I Want You. Barnes’ paintings, filled with rhythm, emotion, and cultural authenticity, continue to inspire and resonate with audiences worldwide. - Shipping Info
