- Lot Description
Christian Aigens (1870-1940) Danish Impressionist Landscape Painting of a Garden by the Sea. Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. Danish painter Anders Peter Christian Larsen assumed the name Aigens around 1903 and lived from 1870 to 1940. He had regular summer stays in Skagen in his youth and first studied at the Technical University in Copenhagen with Vermehren. From 1888-90 he studied at the academy Copenhagen and pupils of the painting school by Peder Severin Krøyer, Michael Ancher and Laurits Regner Tuxen, influenced by Julius Paulsen, undertook study trips to Switzerland (1900) and the Faroe Islands (1906-07), belonged to the artist group around Poul Friis Nybo, created several portraits in 1908-32 of his friends, the writer Christian Engelstoft, active in Copenhagen and Frederiksberg.
