Charlie Chaplin Star Players Photo Collectible Plate. Star Players Photo Co. (Chicago, IL) Vitreous plate of silent film comedy legend Charles Chaplin. Manufactured by Edwin M. Knowles China Co. in 1915, this 9-in. diameter plate features a close shot of the world-famous British film actor, director, writer, producer, and composer with a facsimile of his signature at the bottom.
Charlie Chaplin (1889–1977) was a British actor, filmmaker, and composer best known for his silent film persona, The Tramp. Rising to fame in the early 20th century, he became one of Hollywood’s most influential figures, blending slapstick comedy with social commentary in films like The Kid (1921), City Lights (1931), and Modern Times (1936). As a co-founder of United Artists, he maintained creative control over his work, pioneering cinematic techniques and storytelling. His career was later marred by political controversies, leading to his exile from the U.S. in the 1950s. Chaplin returned to Hollywood briefly in 1972 to receive an honorary Academy Award, cementing his legacy as a pioneer of early cinema.
