Size: 29 x 48 x 22 1/2 in.
Robert “Bob” Lehman was born on May 13th, 1947 in Montclair, New Jersey. As a youth he developed an affinity to nature that became foundational to his later interest in art. During high school he experimented with collage, incorporating acorns, leaves, and other found objects from walks in the surrounding woods. He attended Montclair State College (now University) where he focused on industrial arts, incorporating natural and man-made elements into sculptural forms. He met and married his wife Sandy who was also studying art at Montclair and encouraged him to explore painting and other mediums. In the early 1970s they moved to Frederick, Maryland where Bob was part of the long-term renovation efforts of the historic district, and they first attended an art festival in 1974, operating separate booths. Over the next thirty years they began traveling extensively, attending art festivals and exhibitions up and down the East Coast, with Sandy gravitating to wildlife sculptures and shell art while Bob began crafting forms from hand-painted gourds, driftwood, and other unique materials. Their whimsical “Small Wonders” proved so popular they were able to open an online store in the 2000s, and they began sharing a booth at showings, consolidating their separate artistic endeavors under that name. After attending a festival in Melbourne, Florida in the early 2010s they fell in love with the area and moved there, opening their own home studio where they continue to work from.
