Antique Japanese Woodblock of Pavillion BY HIROSHI YOSHIDA. Determined by the penciled signature and the red seal. Yoshida (1876-1950) is one of the most famous of 20th-century Japanese printmakers in the shin-hanga style – an early 20th-century revitalization movement of the traditional ukiyo-e styles of the 17-19th centuries – most of your typical Japanese auction prints are from the ukiyo-e era, which depicted scenes of rural peasant life, as well as the urban ‘floating world’ of geishas and pleasure houses. Yoshida had several sons who followed him as printmakers in their own right Image size: 14 x 6.5 inches.
