Angeline “Angie” Kasick (nee Rosewicz) was born on September 6th, 1930 in Kansas City, Kansas, where she lived for most of her life. As a young child she was regaled by her Polish immigrant parents with stories of the Old Country, and was briefly inspired to be a chef thanks to specialty foods she helped to prepare with her mother. In 1948 Angie enrolled at the Kansas City Art Institute, experimenting with many different mediums, but primarily drawn to expressionist painting. In the 1950s she and her twin sister Adeline took flying lessons, earned their licenses, and purchased a small propeller plane, offering their services to landlocked citizens to reach the Twin Cities or the Gulf Coast. They were inseparable throughout their twenties, traveling Europe and reconnecting with their heritage, until Angie met Richard Kasick, who she married in 1958. She went to work as a secretary for UMB Bank in the Kansas City, Missouri office, admired for her mathematical acumen and strength of character. Several local branches proudly displayed her original artwork. She and Richard never had children, and when he died in 1989 she retired to focus on painting full-time, as well as compiling family records and anecdotes on an electric typewriter. Angie passed away quietly on June 30th, 2024, predeceased by her entire family and leaving behind a plethora of oil paintings at home and in the Old World Art Gallery, as well as a legacy as a mentor to many local aspiring artists.
