Amos Amit was born in 1945 and was raised in a moshav (farming community) in Galilee. He spent his youth in a vibrant and multi-ethnic community, inspired by the music of his father, the former cellist for the Berlin Symphony before the rise of the Nazis. While serving in the Israeli Army he began to experiment with batik, a style of art originating in the Deccan Plateau that involves wax and dyes on parchment. After his service he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, then traveled to America to obtain his Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture at California Polytechnic Institute in Pomona, California. He then devoted himself to artwork fulltime, focusing primarily on Judaica and landscapes, but still producing musically-inspired work as well. Dividing his time since then between Israel and the United States, he has won numerous awards and has works in collections at museums in Florida, California, and Mexico.
