African Golden Jackal Throw on Black Felt. Appears to be 32 Pelts to create this masterpiece. Golden color fur suggests it is not as African as the blackback jackal, but more Eurasian between Egypt and Turkey.
The golden jackal (Canis aureus), also known as the common jackal, is a wolf-like canid native to Eurasia. It has a coat that ranges from pale creamy yellow in summer to dark tawny beige in winter. Compared to the Arabian wolf, it is smaller, with shorter legs, a shorter tail, an elongated torso, a less-prominent forehead, and a narrower muzzle. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN due to its widespread distribution and abundance in areas with sufficient food and shelter.
Despite its name, the golden jackal is not closely related to African jackals but is more closely related to wolves and coyotes. Its ancestor is believed to be the extinct Arno river dog from southern Europe, which lived 1.9 million years ago. Genetic studies show that golden jackals expanded from India around 20,000 years ago. The oldest golden jackal fossils are 7,600 years old from Lebanon and 7,000 years old from Greece.
