The A.H. Heisey Company was formed in Newark, Ohio, in 1895 by Augustus Henry Heisey. The factory provided fine quality glass tableware and decorative glass figurines, using both pressed and blown techniques, as well as producing some of the first automobile headlights. Highly finished through a process called firepolishing, the quality is so good that even pressed pieces appear to be cut glass due to the crispness of the molding. After Augustus passed in 1922 his sons continued operations, with the most prolific period of manufacturing from 1925 to 1938. Heisey glass became highly collectible during this period, with popular patterns like Crystolite, Greek Key, and Empress, as well as distinctly colored lines like the very rare Alexandrite that reacts to ultraviolet light by glowing. In 1957 the factory closed, and the molds were bought by the Imperial Glass Company which continued to produce pieces in their style until that company went out of business in 1984. The Heisey Collectors of America, a collecting group that formed in 1971 in Newark, purchased the Heisey molds from Imperial and established an archive at their Heisey Glass Museum, occasionally reproducing pieces for fundraising purposes, sold only in the gift shop.
Good.
