Sight Size: 13 x 8 in.Johann Theodor de Bry (1561–1623) was a Flemish-born engraver, publisher, and artist who became renowned for his detailed engravings of the New World and its indigenous peoples. He is best known for his role in producing the Grand Voyages, a series of illustrated books documenting the travels and explorations of Europeans in the Americas. De Bry’s engravings provided European audiences with vivid, albeit often idealized and exaggerated, depictions of native cultures, landscapes, and wildlife. His work played a crucial role in shaping the European perception of the Americas during the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Through his publications, de Bry left an enduring legacy in both the fields of exploration and art.
