- Lot Description
1932 Edward Laughlin Original Oil On Canvas of Indian Princess. In doing research it appears the same image was created in august about 5 months later by a listed artist Charles M Relyea. Although Edward is not a listed artist the quality of the work and age begs to question how another artist got access to his work so quickly and or how the two may have known one another or found the same inspiration.
Image depicts an Indian Scene with a palace in the background. A woman dressed in dancer / flapper attire is raising her hands to the sky as the man behind her sits cross legged playing a flute. The painting shows details of movement through wind in the flowing dress and smoke patterns of an incense burner on the rugs. This spiritual experience transcends boundaries in a tribute to the times and culture of the region.
