Alternative titles for this piece included "Strange Neighborhood," hinting at Baumann's affectionate amusement of his small family, a band of theatrical adventurers. Included in this image is their German Shepherd, Tosco, peering curiously out of the doorway in the lower left. "A photograph in the Baumann archive captures Ann and her father striking a similar pose in a doorway. The figure of Ann has been outlined with pencil, an indication that the image was transferred, possibly in preparation for this woodcut." (Chamberlain, p. 402)
