Hugely desirable 1988 UK vinyl pressing of Prince’s 10th studio album, Lovesexy, which is signed on the front cover in black felt tip by Prince, “‘Love God,’ P, ‘88.” The cover is also signed in multicolored felt tip by five members of the Revolution: Levi Seacer, Jr., Doctor Fink, Atlanta Bliss, Miko Weaver, and Eric Leeds, with the first two adding an inscription to “July.” The consignor notes that the signatures were obtained on July 29, 1988, at a rare in-store signing at HMV Oxford Street in London, during the first leg of Prince’s 1988-1989 Lovesexy Tour. In fine condition, with a light crease to the upper left corner, and an affixed price sticker to the upper right. The record is included.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks, a modern color 6 x 4 photo of Prince arriving at the HMV signing, and a letter of provenance from the original recipient, which reads: “Here are the details of how I obtained the signed Lovesexy Album by Prince. In July 1988 aged 19 I queued at HMV in central London on my lunch break as I worked in Hatton Garden. I had heard on the radio that he was there it was July 29th. Prince and the other members of the band present signed the Lovesexy Album that I bought on the way in the shop. I had attended a concert a few days before at Wembley Arena to see Prince. I spoke to Prince and told him how amazing the show had been. He said ‘Thank you so much’ and was very sweet. This was a very memorable moment and I won’t forget it.”
In December 1987, following a spiritual epiphany in which Prince was convinced that ‘The Black Album’ was evil, he quickly reentered the studio and recorded a much more positive album in ‘Lovesexy.’ The album was recorded in just seven weeks at Prince's new Paisley Park Studios and was primarily a solo effort by Prince. The album was supported by the critically acclaimed Lovesexy Tour, which traversed the globe from July 8, 1988, to February 13, 1989. Prince was a notoriously reluctant signer during his lifetime and, as such, authentically signed albums by Prince are exceedingly rare, this being an outstanding example captured at the apex of his career.
