John Lee Hooker’s personally-owned vintage 1950s Kay (L 5751) archtop hollow-body acoustic guitar with a sunburst finish, which was played extensively by the legendary bluesman throughout the 1970s both on stage and in the studio. In fine condition, with scattered light scuffs, a few minor dents and chips, and a small crack to the pickguard; none of which detract from the guitar’s beautiful presentation. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Zakiya Hooker: “The 1970's era Kay Acoustic Guitar...belonged to my father, Mr. John Lee Hooker. This guitar was used as a home guitar but also, this Kay was used on the road and in some recordings throughout the 1970's. My father loved this guitar for many reasons. From the way it sounded to the flamed finish on the back. From the studio to some live shows, it served as one of only a few backup acoustics. This guitar is very special.” Backed by rock-solid provenance, this handsome acoustic guitar was well-used by one of music's foremost pioneers in the art of blues-making—an exceptional offering deriving from the instrument collection of John Lee Hooker.
