Maybe Sparrow
Acrylic and twigs
12 x 4 x 4 inches
Maybe Sparrow is inspired by the Neko Case song of the same name. The acrylic is cut with laser technology, and the twigs are painted white. The two materials bring together the natural and the artificial in constructing a story about a girl and sparrow. The girl stands in one of the two openings, warning the sparrow of the hawk’s presence.
Katya Crawford teaches full time in the Landscape Architecture program at the University of New Mexico School of Architecture and Planning. She is also the co-founder of the design and fabrications collective Westbund West. In her work, Crawford seeks out the extraordinary in the ordinary, using photography, collage, video, and the landscape as her mediums for design and discovery.
