The Powerhouse is a sculptural entanglement of repurposed electrical and power cords designed to accommodate the nesting habitats of sparrows and wrens. With the constant evolution of electrical equipment, plugs and adapters become obsolete and disposable. The entanglement of cords in The Powerhouse allows air circulation through the nest, and the rain guard keeps the nest dry.
David L. Rooth’s designs are heavily influenced by the forces of nature. Through the study of architecture, furniture, and sculpture, Rooth finds innovative ways to apply raw materials or use discarded items not only to enhance the built environment but to help preserve it. Rooth has won multiple architecture competitions as well as furniture commissions.
