Nest:re
3D rapid prototype, wood, video file
16 x 24 x 24 inches
40.6 x 61 x 61 cm
Nest:re examines the nature of the architect/client relationship as viewed through the lens of the birdhouse. It proposes an alternate history of design in which birds have become partners and communication is equalized. In this matrix, where is expertise ultimately located? Nest:re comprises a 3-D printed object and a video projection file. This projection can be viewed by following this link: https://vimeo.com/123246134
In digital rapid prototyping, Nest:re employs techniques of mass production and its recent offspring, mass customization, in relationship to the uniqueness of every bird’s nest.
The imagery in the video represents an investigation in which birds and architects communicate and participate in a collaborative design process. In this reimagining, the processes of the architect/client relationship are highlighted and called into question in a humorous but critical manner. The images shown are selections from the video which accompanies the 3-D printed nest object.
Christopher Beccone teaches design studios at the University of New Mexico School of Architecture with a concentration on design methodologies and integrating digital representation and fabrication processes in the studio. In 2007, he became an associate at Antoine Predock Architects PC, where he worked for 6 years. He now practices independently.
Justine Humble is interested in many aspects of design and architecture. Her focus on craft and fabrication allow her to create spaces and objects that enhance the overall design. She exhibits her architectural and furniture designs regularly.
