Fritz Asian Elephant Death Photo. Barnum and Bailey Circus. Tours, France: Gaston Dagoreau, June 11, 1902. Matte-finish silver print on original mount, depicting the dead elephant Fritz in front of Place Nicolas Fermeaud, at the parade where he was dragged down and choked to death, as ordered by managers Bailey and McCaddon for what the managers felt was disobedient and violent behavior. 19 ½ x 15 ½”. Studio credits to verso. Signed by photographer in red ink lower right. Scuffs and chips to mount, else good.
