Etching, signed lower right. 5" x 9"
"Wm Sharp". Sharp was born in Austria where he attended the Academy for Arts and Industry. His early career started with designing stain glass windows and painting murals but he quickly became involved with the anti-Hitler movement and created political cartoons against it. He used a pseudonym but was found out and was to be sent to a concentration camp but escaped to the US in 1934. He was a longtime contributor to The New York Times Magazine and The New York Post. Sharp's work is represented in many museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Library of Congress, the Carnegie Institute, and the New York Public Library.
Please ask all questions prior to bidding, additional photos and condition reports are available for all lots. Lot descriptions and condition reports represent the informed opinion of Peterborough Auctions, but do not serve as a guarantee. The absence of a condition report does not guarantee excellent condition or imply an object is free of defects. Many old frames are delicate and prone to loss from handling and shipping and we can not guarantee frames to be in the same condition as when photographed. Within a reasonable margin, all weights and measurements should be considered approximate.
Pick Up/Shipping: Peterborough Auctions has limited space and a busy schedule. Buyers are asked to make timely arrangements to pick up, or to arrange shipping of purchased lots. Designated pickup hours will be posted for the two weeks following each auction, after which all pickups are by appointment only. Buyers of large lots or buyers with multiple lots on their invoice are encouraged to schedule an appointment. Lots left in our gallery for 30 days without communication of arrangements are subject to storage charges ($5 per day, per lot); after 60 days these lots will be deemed abandoned and disposed of as seen fit by Peterborough Auctions.
Peterborough Auctions does not directly ship any lots sold at our auctions, but works with a trusted and reliable shipping partner in Peter at KaSa CMT, Inc. located right down the road here in Peterborough NH. He provides excellent services using FedEx, UPS, and the USPS. They can be reached via email at peter@kasacmt.com (preferred method is email) or at 603-784-5327. Please contact them directly for shipping quotes and shipping payment. The buyer is responsible for contacting KasaCMT after their invoice is paid in full and requesting shipping services, we do not contact them on your behalf. They will pick up your item(s) after your invoice is paid in full.
Certain lots are subject to in house shipping quotes in an effort to expedite the process. In this case, shipping costs will be added to the invoice total. Lots will be shipped to the address on the invoice once payment is received. It is the responsibility of the buyer to update their address or inform us of an alternate address BEFORE making payment as the quoted shipping process is automated. We are not responsible for any additional fees to redirect a flat rate delivery.
