Arabic Islamic Manuscript: DALĀ'IL AL-KHAYYIRĀT (Guide to Good Deeds), Size 7 5/8 x 5 3/8 inches. Late Eighteenth Century. al-Jazūlī, Abū `Abd Allāh Muhammad Ibn Sulaymān (died 870 of the Islaminc year corresponding to 1460 AD). DALĀ'IL AL-KHAYYIRĀT (Guide to Good Deeds). This is one of the most famous books of prayer in Islamic literature. Number of leaves: 61 (122 pages); size: 13.2 x 19.4 cm; in beautiful, clear, and elegant naskhī script, in black ink, with headings and keywords in red, on beige paper, 13 lines to a page. The Arabic text is completely vocalized. All pages are ruled in several lines of gold, red, and blue throughout. All sentences are separated with rosette-like discs. The manuscript begins in an introductory prayer in Arabic and Ottoman Rurkish. Followed by the DALĀ'IL AL-KHAYYIRĀT (Guide to Good Deeds). There are three highly illuminated pages in gold, blue, brown, and other colors. There are also tail pieces in gold and other colors. Pages 16b and 17a contain two full‑page miniatures, one of them representing the Ka`bah in Mecca, the other the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad in the Medina Mosque. Each name of the beautiful names of God (al-asma’ al-husan), pages 2a - 3a, is followed in the phrase jalla jalaluh (glory to God) in red ink. Similarly, each name of the Prophet Muhammad, pages 12a – 14b, is followed by the phrase salla allah alayhi wa sallam (May God’s prayer and piece be upon) in red ink. Undated, but most likely from the late eighteenth century. Contemporary embossed brown morocco, with central medallions, with a flap in the traditional Islamic binding; with gold insets. Edges slightly rubbed, otherwise in excellent condition.

Highly Illuminated Medium Islamic Arabic Koran Manuscript. Size 9 3/4 x 6 inches. Complete KORAN. 303 leave (606 pages); size: 13.7 x 20 cm; 15 lines to a page; Arabic text is written in clear, somewhat small, and elegant naskhī script; in black ink; on beige colored paper. The Arabic text is vocalized throughout with recitational markings in red. Headings of chapters are marked in gold strips. Two leaves at the beginning of the Koran are beautifully illuminated in gold and colors. All verses are separated by gold discs. Divisions of the Koran are elaborately marked in different medallions in gold and colors on the margins. All pages are ruled in a several lines of gold, blue, red, and black. Bound in gilt nineteenth century morocco, a little rubbed, a few leaves with edge repair, another few leaves towards the end with marginal dampness at the top, minor smudges, still and in excellent Koran. Undated, but most likely from the nineteenth century. However, the calligraphy is superb and gilding everywhere is striking in its freshness and beauty.
