Late Eighteenth Century. al-JazÅ«lÄ«, AbÅ« `Abd AllÄh Muhammad Ibn SulaymÄn (died 870 of the Islaminc year corresponding to 1460 AD). DALÄ'IL AL-KHAYYIRÄT (Guide to Good Deeds). This is one of the most famous books of prayer in Islamic literature. Number of leaves: 61 (122 pages); size: 13.2 x 19.4 cm; in beautiful, clear, and elegant naskhÄ« script, in black ink, with headings and keywords in red, on beige paper, 13 lines to a page. The Arabic text is completely vocalized. All pages are ruled in several lines of gold, red, and blue throughout. All sentences are separated with rosette-like discs. The manuscript begins in an introductory prayer in Arabic and Ottoman Rurkish. Followed by the DALÄ'IL AL-KHAYYIRÄT (Guide to Good Deeds). There are three highly illuminated pages in gold, blue, brown, and other colors. There are also tail pieces in gold and other colors. Pages 16b and 17a contain two fullâpage miniatures, one of them representing the Ka`bah in Mecca, the other the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad in the Medina Mosque. Each name of the beautiful names of God (al-asmaâ al-husan), pages 2a - 3a, is followed in the phrase jalla jalaluh (glory to God) in red ink. Similarly, each name of the Prophet Muhammad, pages 12a â 14b, is followed by the phrase salla allah alayhi wa sallam (May Godâs prayer and piece be upon) in red ink. Undated, but most likely from the late eighteenth century. Contemporary embossed brown morocco, with central medallions, with a flap in the traditional Islamic binding; with gold insets. Edges slightly rubbed, otherwise in excellent condition.
