Ralph Eugene Cahoon Jr. (1910-1982) Oil on Masonite "American Seamen's Friend Society", depicting two Captains seated in decorated comb-back Windsor chairs enjoying a lavish surf and turf dinner served up by two pearl adorned mermaids. The Captains discussing their upcoming voyage on the ship Dashing Wave to Hong Kong, Canton and Calcutta, departing Derby Wharf May 4 1841. Several active American ships visible in the distant harbor. All framed within a scrimshaw and titled banner border "American Seamen's Friend Society." Signed lower right R. Cahoon PINXT, in black molded wood frame.
