WWI KING EDWARD VIII LETTER TO ADM SIR STANLEY COLVILLE
Handwritten autographed letter from King Edward VIII (Then Edward, Prince of Wales), dated October 23, 1917, and addressed to senior Royal Navy Officer Admiral Sir Stanley Colville, G.C.V.O. He expresses gratitude for his letter and apologizes for the delay, that he will donate £50 to the Trafalgar Orphan Fund, and describes events during his time on the Western Front in WWI, namely the Battle of Arras. An excerpt reads "...I know what admirable work the Fund does & I hope it will have a record year under your presidency!! It is ages since I have seen or heard of you, & it was delightful getting your letter; but I haven't been home since May & this corps has been fighting battles N. of YPRES for the last 3 months so that we have all been fearfully busy with very little time for letter writing. I believe we exchanged letters in June which was before the offensive command; well we are still here & still being offensive to the Arras? and have had some great victories tho. We are up against the weather now, the rain & mud, & its really about time we closed down for the Winter & dig trenches. Besides 3 months on and off battles is just about enough for everyone, & we want some leave; we hope to be relieved early next month when I hope to get home!! I suppose you are as busy as ever, tho. How much worse a war is in Winter time; how sick of it all one is, ? The end is by no means in sight!! Poor old Bertie (Prince Albert, later King George VI) has indeed had bad luck having to go sick again; he's been very well this month I hear is still, tho. He's evidently got a stoppage & the sooner he is cut open and it is removed the better!! He is very keen on the operation himself, & says its the only possible care or that his inside will never get right by nature!! Well, I don't know, but I wish he could get cured as it is so bad for him spending 9 months of every year "on the beach" ? he hates it enough poor boy & it isn't his fault!! Please let me know if you manage to fix up another trip to France, but I should wait another month or so if I were you till the offensive is over!!!! Please forgive such a dull yarn, but I have no ? & less time. Again, many thanks for your letter & I remain ever yours. Very sincerely, Edward." - Shipping - Items requiring shipment will be shipped by Omnia's in-house shipping department or a buyer arranged 3rd party shipping agent. Although best-effort is made to ship items in-house, those considered oversized, fragile, framed, or complex may require buyer-arranged 3rd party shipping (we cannot ship in-house).
Designated In-House Shipping: Please allow up to 14 business days after receipt of cleared invoice payment for purchases to be packaged for shipping. For accuracy of the shipping cost, shipping may be calculated and invoiced separate from the auction purchase invoice. If you do not see a shipping cost line item on your auction invoice - Please pay your invoice and you will then receive a separate shipping invoice (after the items have been packed, measured, and weighed).
If an invoice is paid by credit card - the purchase / shipment must ship to the verified billing address of the credit card issuer.
Once shipped - buyers receive their shipment tracking information by email.
In-House domestic shipments are by USPS, FedEx, or UPS. All Domestic shipments include mandatory insurance, tracking, and signature delivery confirmation.
International shipments are sent by USPS, UPS, or DHL. International shipments cannot be insured and are sent at the buyers' risk. Any loss of items being shipped internationally, financial or other, are the responsibility of the buyer.
Omnia must be notified of Shipping Claims, Damage or Loss within 7 days of receipt. All shipping damage / loss claims must be processed and resolved through the organization by which they were shipped or insured. Absolutely no refunds or claims may be submitted beyond 7 days of receiving a shipment.
With approval by Omnia, buyers are able to arrange for their own shipping on any item purchased.
Designated 3rd Party Shipping: The invoice notes will indicate "Buyer-Arranged 3rd Party Shipping". If designated for 3rd party shipping, it is the responsibility of the buyer to arrange shipping / transport of the items / purchase. We cannot ship these invoices in-house.
- Local Pickup - Buyers are able to pick their items up in person from Omnia's Gallery: 1668 Capital Circle SE., Tallahassee FL 32301. All local pickups are by appointment and must take place within 15 days of the auction.
