A beautiful, early color example of Mercator’s foundation map of Scandinavia. Mercator used the cartographic information from his 1554 fifteen sheet map of Europe and his even larger map of Europe published in 1572 for the basic geographical foundation for the map. In this new atlas map, Mercator corrects the shape of the Peninsula. Richly embellished with a strap work cartouche.
