Two Black-Painted Rush Seat Bannister Back Side Chairs
New England, first half 18th C.
Provenance: Property from a Private Charlottesville, VA Collection
Each appx 47 1/2 x 18 3/4 x 14 in. (120.7 x 47.6 x 35.6 cm.)Condition
Double turned medial stretcher. Legs/feet extended below turned medial stretcher. Seat re-rushed. Wear to back of turned finial. One back splat warped. One finial and one slat possibly replaced.
The second seat: seat re-rushed. Several cracks, repairs and minor patches to crest. Wear to back of finials. Old chip and loss to portion of backside of one front foot. Rear feet possibly extended. Repair to one side stretcher. Surface refreshed on both chairs.
