American Folk Art Triple Portrait
Oil on Canvas
c. 1840, An imposing triple portrait of a couple and their young child, the mother, with a highly detailed lace color, excellent curls, father, with a fine set of sideburns, all contained inside a painted rondel.
Sight: 25 1/2 x 25 1/2 in. (64.8 x 64.8 cm.), Frame: 29 1/2 x 29 1/2 in. (74.9 x 74.9 cm.)Condition
Relined. Stretch bar marks visible. Craquelure throughout. Some scattered fly specking. U.V. inspection revealed scattered retouch. Some on right side of lady’s face (facing picture on the left). Possible repair above child’s head closer to mom’s chin. Retouch on lady’s collar/blouse. Flaking retouched on gentleman’s lapel. Retouch along top edge of picture. Some on neck and side of child’s face. A little retouch in man’s hair. Small pimpled above lady’s head. The picture presents nicely and is ready to hang. Otherwise good condition. Loss to some gilding along lower parts of frame.
