This is fantastic beautiful Southern Plains beaded hide holster paired with a 19th Century pinfire double barrel dueling pistol. The set is attributed to the Comanche at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and is masterful work of American Indian Art. The holster is made of Indian brain tanned buffalo / bison hide with long frilly hide fringes with a fringed top flap all cover in fantastic geometric beadwork. The geometric beaded design and colors used are indicative of Southern Plains stylings of the late 19th century having a beaded flap and four-point morning star in blue on a white background, which is documented art style of the Comanche Indians. The holster is well kept with minimal wear and little to no bead loss. The sheath is paired with a fantastic mid-1800’s old Civil War used double barrel pinfire .56 caliber dueling pistol. The American Civil War era piece shows hand checkered walnut grips, not the fluted style seen on European models. The metal has a diamond etched finish. The breach button the left side opens for loading and cocking back the double exposed percussion hammers which then release the hidden spur triggers. The springs and actions work perfectly on the pistol with some minor cosmetic issues but overall well kept. The set was said to be collected from the Comanche at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and is a nice rare offering. The pistol is documented as being a fine American 19th Century example with the sheath being a fine pairing but likely a later addition. Please review for your own representation of age. Provenance: From the Jim Bastian Kansas City, Missouri collection. The sheath body measures 9 inches long by 6 inches wide without the fringes, total length including fringes is 19 inches. Antique firearm.
