The lot features an early beaded dag knife sheath and dag knife, with beadwork likely from the Northern Plains Native American Indians. The sheath is comprised of Indian brain-tanned Great American Bison Buffalo hide in typical wider dag knife sheath form with wonderful geometric Northern Plains pattern beadwork. The beadwork shows colors of greasy yellow, greasy blue, semi-transparent red, blue and chalk white. There is a row of old hand-rolled tin cone danglers attached to the front of the sheath on Indian hide fringes and at the bottom a row of hand cut hide fringes. Atop is the original hide tie strap. The sheath shows little to no bead loss and good overall condition measuring 15 inches long including the fringes by 3 ¾ inches wide. Paired with the sheath is a dag knife. The knife shows a double edge blade with double notch-cut near the end and shows a hard wood handle with six copper rivets and brass tacks in a crude beaver back pattern. The blade has a stamp of HB on one side. The HB stamp typically is associated with the Hudson Bay Trading Company, with most stamps being later additions to older objects by collectors. The knife appears to be of an older age but the mark is likely not. The sheath also appears older. The knife measures 15 ¼ inches in length. From a Missouri Native American weapons collection.
