For your consideration is this beautiful, ilfochrome (cibachrome) photograph titled, "Clearwater River Ripples" taken, printed and signed by photographer Christopher Burkett in Idaho circa 1994. This is edition number 154. Christopher Burkett was born in 1951 and raised in the Pacific Northwest. In 1975, while serving as a brother in a Christian order, he became interested in photography as a way to portray the grace, light, and beauty he witnessed in nature. Burkett left the order in 1979 to pursue photography, after which he married Ruth. He learned about offset printing and used four-color printing presses and laser scanners to produce detailed color separations. Years of experience in the printing sector helped him develop a good sense of color and a thorough understanding of color and tone reproduction principles. His images are included in numerous public and private fine art collections. Burkett has also led several seminars sponsored by the Friends of Photography and Anderson Ranch Arts Centre and is a nationally acknowledged expert in printing Cibachrome (Ilfochrome) due to his use of complex and unique masking procedures. Today, Burkett travels regularly throughout the United States to photograph. Ruth and Christopher began their photography vacation in the fall of 1994 by visiting Glacier National Park in Montana. On their journey there, they passed through Idaho and followed the Clearwater River. They came to a halt around noon, and Christopher was captivated by the light reflected in the river's crystal-clear waters. The vivid reflections of the trees, sky, and stream bank blended with the stones beneath the river, creating an intriguing combination of light, shapes, and patterns. After many years of the photo sitting in his studio, he decided to use it for an upcoming photography book titled, "Resplendent Light". When asked about creation the photograph, Christopher said, "As soon as I began to make a Cibachrome print of this image I realized it was going to exceed my expectations in every way. It requires great finesse in printing to allow the image to express its maximum potential through a luminous Cibachrome print... To me, the final exhibition prints convey much of that vibrant, shimmering light which I saw and experienced many years ago. At times the image can appear to somehow mysteriously convey a palpable, exuberant feeling of the joy and light which fills all of creation." The cibachrome print shows beautiful reflected colors of blue, green, orange, yellow and light red and is matted once with white matting paper. The artist's signature can be seen on the bottom right hand corner on the mating paper reading, "Christopher Burkett" in pencil. The cibachrome print has been pressure mounted, which is similar to dry mounting, however, it benefits from not requiring heat, which can potentially damage the work. It has been set in a large, dark wood frame with a silver inner border and set behind glass to preserve its condition. The artwork comes with an Insurance Evaluation done by Julia B. Christopher, the Director at Photography West Gallery in Carmel, California, a letter from Christopher Burkett to Photography West Gallery explaining retail prices for the piece and bills of sale for the artwork and framing expenses. Both the artwork and the frame show good condition overall with no wear or damage present. The visible print measures 28 5/8" L x 28 5/8" W. The whole print measures 30" L x 30" W. The entire piece measures 45 7/8" L x 43 7/8" W x 1" D.
