This is an original, scarce Swiss made Omega Seamaster Chronostop reference 145.008 XL 120m Jumbo Diver cal 865, being a rare circa 1968, the first year of this variations production. This watch was collected in the United Kingdom and is engraved on the back M.P. BAM., M.P. standing for Member of Parliament, this watch being owned by Bob Adam Maclennan, Baron Maclennan of Rogart who was elected to become a Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of Caithness and Sutherland in 1966 (for the 1966-1970 term) in the Labour Party, later being elevated to the House of Lords. This watch sports a substantial 41mm stainless steel case and inner rotating bezel, of the three variants of this model 145.008 this model, the 120 m divers’ variant was the last and least common. The watch exhibits the cal. 865 Omega movement which is the closest relative of the famed cal. 861 movement which powered the famous Speedmaster range, although the Speedmaster reaches much loftier heights of value, this watch won many industry awards and has a high beat movement matching the 861. This example is completely original including the Omega symbol under the center of the crystal, the dial is truly beautiful (nearly flawless) and the tritium has aged nicely and still shows nice glow. The original Chronostop hand has a nice rich orange color. What makes this model of watch most interesting is the inner minute dial which is a rotating bezel operated by the Omega signed crown at 10, the bezel rotates freely. The Chronostop function is operated by the correctly unsigned crown at 2 and this functions exactly as it should, pushing the crown starts the timer and pushing it a second time resets the hand back to 12. The reaming or fluted crown at 4 is correctly Omega signed and is used to set the time and wind the manual winding cal. 865 movement. The back of the watch has the correct backing marked Seamaster Waterproof Tested 120m with the Omega logo and the famed Omega Seahorse as well as being engraved M.P. BAM. from Member of Parliament (MP) Bob Adam Mclennan (BAM). The inside of the movement is marked with the Omega logo and Omega Watch Co. inside the triangle above FAB. SUISSE SWISS MADE ACIER INOXYDABLE 145.008 and a touchmark. The movement is marked Omega Swiss as well as the Omega logo above 865, Seventeen 17 Jewels and the serial number of 27723994, noted by the Omega records as being manufactured in 1968, the first year of this unique 120m Jumbo Dive Watch Chonostop Seamaster variation. The movement winds correctly and works well, keeping good time. The Chronostop button works correctly and the hand sweeps freely. The watch works well. This is accompanied by a later genuine leather 22XXL watch band. The dial shows the orange Omega logo above Omega Chronostop and below the hands Seamaster / Swiss Made. It shows silver reflective baton indices with dots of tritium at the end with the hashed dial in whote above setoff by the inner rotating bezel with second marks in fives. The hands show a bright orange Chronostop hand with the hour and minutes hands being white with tritium inside. The original Omega crystal is on the watch with the Omega logo at the center. Unlike other collectible watches, this watch boasts a completely unique movement, only used on this watch, created by Omega the cal. 865. The crystal has some scuffing, typical of original Omega hesalite-crystal. The watch has some typical wear marks, with small scuffs, the original radiating finish is still present, which indicates the watch has not been polished. In its original vintage form, appearing to be untouched.*
