Paul Solberg, born in St. Paul, Minnesota, studied anthropology at the University of Cape Town before moving to New York City in 1996. Solberg began his photographic career with his first published book, Bloom (2005), followed by Puppies Behind Bars (2006), Tyrants + Lederhosen (2011), Tattoos, Hornets & Fire co-authored with Christopher Makos (2012), and his monograph, Ten Years In Pictures (2014). First known for his acclaimed flower portraits, the same stillness is seen in his human subjects including his portrait of Ai Weiwei (2008), and in the faces of the Armed Forces, in Service (2010). His work resides in such collections as the Elton John Photography Collection, and more recently he has exhibited at the America House, Kiev, 2017. Solberg's photographs have been published in Publisher's Weekly, Le Figaro, CNN, L'Oeil de la Photographie, Interview Magazine, Women's Wear Daily, and The Wall Street Journal. His work has been shown internationally at museums and galleries including La Casa Encendida in Madrid, Subte Museum, Galerie Sho Contemporary Art in Tokyo, Galerie Hiltawsky in Berlin, Karl Hutter Fine Art in Los Angeles, MM Fine Art in New York, and Galerie Catherine Houard in Paris. Solberg lives in New York City.
