One German helmet, leather insert cushion. No strap. Oval mfg. stamp inside top of helmet (in German). Excellent condition. 4 decommissioned ordinance, three with shells. American and German. One is labeled Scoville Model 1907 M. One is labeled AM & BR MFG Co. One is labeled Jachmann Geschutz. One unidentified. All in excellent condition. An interesting 2 page typescript of a letter written by the Chaplain of the [USS] SanDiego on February 21st, 1945 from San Francisco - "for the crew to send home". The letter was sent as "a brief account of the San Diego's experiences in the last few months. Our ship has been i n the 'thick of things' for so long, that one hardly knows where to begin." After recounting several battles, one horrific storm, and short recesses in various ports, the letter ends with "So the next time you start worrying about me just remember that I may be in one of these ports...with a fishing line over the side. Yours." In fine condition, with some paper clip rust marks and small folds.
