Japanese Export, Edo Period, ca. 1800-20. Black, brown and gold lacquer with shell Inlay traveling writing desk, in Kyoto-Nagasaki style: a hinged rectangular top with scattered shell inlay long-tail ho-o birds and flowers in gold lacquer, in diagonally alternating brownish-gold nashiji lacquer and black lacquer bands, centering a gold lacquer shell inlay scene of a hunter in a wooded landscape; opening to a fully-fitted lacquered interior with a hinged green baize writing surface with tooling, with partitioned trays for writing utensils, a glass inkwell and glass sander with a silver top; a long side drawer below that extends the width of the box; with silvered copper side handles.
H 5-1/2 in. W 17-3/4 in. D 10 in.

All shipping is outsourced. All buyers and shippers must come prepared with appropriate packing materials and help for heavy items. Our staff will not be available to help move heavy items. If payment is made by check, items will be held 7 business days before an item is released for shipping.
Items can be picked up in person or by a shipper at 14 Business Park Drive - Unit 5, Branford, CT - BY CONFIRMED APPOINTMENT ONLY. Please contact the gallery 24 hours in advance to make an appointment. Pickup can be scheduled for Monday through Friday between 9am - 3pm beginning the Monday after the date of the auction. Please note that all first-time buyers that wish to pick items up in person must pay with cash.

All purchases must be picked up from our location within 14 days, no exceptions. Purchased items that have been paid for but not picked up or shipped from our auction facility within 14 days of the auction will be stored at a rate of $10 per day per lot for furniture and larger items and $5 per day per lot for smaller items. A moving fee of $25 going into storage and $25 going out of storage will be added. Storage fees and late fees must be paid before items are released. There are no exceptions.
Items not picked up within 60 days of the auction date will be considered in default and become the property of New England Auctions.
