• Lot Description

  Beni Kosh (Charles Elmer Harris) (American, Cleveland School 1917-1993) Meditation on African Sculpture, 1957, oil on found wood panel, signed and dated lower left, framed.
  
  Dimensions: 20 x 15 in.
  
  Condition: Some surface inconsistencies in the panel in the making, some vertical age cracks in the panel at the lower edge which have been retouched. Some minor scuffs to surface. 
  Courtesy  Petrucci Family Foundation: Charles Elmer Harris was born in 1917 in Cleveland, Ohio. In the 1960’s, he legally changed his name to Beni E. Kosh or “Son Of Ethiopia”. He was a student of Cleveland artist Paul Travis at the Cleveland Institute of Art and later connected to the “Sho Nuff Art Group”, a group of African-American artists, and the Karamu House artist group. Kosh scarcely ever exhibited or sold his work. It was not until the end of his life that his works were “rediscovered” and amassed recognition.  Kosh’s work is noted in the catalog “Yet Still, We Rise: African American Art in Cleveland 1920 – 1970” and included in exhibitions at the Cleveland State University and the Butler Institute of American Art. The artist died in 1993.

Thirty days following the end of the auction, all lots that have not been removed from Neue Auctions, will incur storage fees of $10.00 per lot per day until removed unless you notify us when you will pick up at a later date.     Invoices are emailed when the auction is complete are required to be paid within five days. We accept bank wire transfers, cash, personal or company checks, and all major credit cards. Payments are accepted through the bidding platform for a 2.8% processing fee assumed by the buyer. If paying by check, Neue Auctions, LLC reserves the right to hold all purchases until the check has cleared to the satisfaction of Neue Auctions, LLC and its bank. Neue Auctions at our discretion, reserves the right to deny credit card purchases by phone. Any credit card payment by phone is subject to a 5% processing fee assumed by the buyer at the discretion of the gallery. We reserve the right to decline payment by credit card for any reason and may request wire payment or check. Payment is required within five days of the auction end date or if a check is mailed, the gallery must be notified. Bidder dispute will be opened if payment is not received within our terms. If paying by check, Neue Auctions, LLC reserves the right to hold all purchases until the check has cleared to the satisfaction of Neue Auctions, LLC and its bank. Neue Auctions at our discretion, reserves the right to deny credit card purchases by phone.
