Beautiful Berber Vintage Moroccan Rug, Country of Origin: Morocco, Circa Date: Mid 20th Century – There is nothing like the beautiful rugs of the Beni Ourain tribes of Morocco to give the room a cozy feel. The Beni Ourain is a confederation of 17 tribes who live in the harsh landscape of the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. In this area of the world, weaving has a history of tradition that goes back to the paleolithic era. These rugs are traditionally woven by the women of the tribe and were originally used to keep the cold out of the tents.
However, today, we enjoy them for their unique designs and texture that they add to contemporary spaces.Moroccan rugs became popular in the mid-20th century when designers were drawn to the simple forms and primitive style. They often have a longer pile than rugs woven in cities. This gives them a soft look that adds texture to the design. Designers, such as the artist who called himself Le Corbusier, introduced a line of furniture that focused on simplicity and form.
