Antique Persian Mohtashem Silk Kashan Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: Last Quarter of the 19th Century – This marvelous antique Persian Mohtashem Kashan rug features robust colors, sumptuous materials and elegant floral designs that have a bold, well-defined style. Robust burgundy reds, ochre yellows and soothing blues are expertly juxtaposed in this exquisite carpet from the elusive looms of Kashan’s most famous workshop. In a classical Mohtashem fashion, the beautifully appointed field on this antique rug displays a superb inset-lozenge medallion filled with heavy floral decorations. Lavish polychrome blossoms and stylized botanical motifs adorn the graceful medallion centerpiece and elegant contrasting segments that radiate across the field. Charming contrasting accents embolden the articulated vine scrolls and unfurling palmettes while giving them a presence that surpasses their fragile features. Exquisite burgundy-red borders filled with reciprocating floral motifs frame the richly colored field and impart a sense of whimsy linked to Persia’s humble village designs.
