OVERSIZED ANTIQUE PERSIAN HERIZ SERAPI RUG. 20 ft 6 in x 13 ft 6 in (6.25 m x 4.11 m).
The Antique Persian Heriz Serapi and Bakshaish rugs are some of the most distinguished in Persian rug making history. The Antique Persian Heriz rugs are known for their beautiful geometric anchor medallions that are set against a brilliant field. This breathtaking antique Serapi rug was produced around the year 1900 and demonstrates many of the qualities that make the Persian rugs from this region of Iran unique.
The central medallion of the antique rug is based on the square rather than the curvy rounded medallion center found in rugs in other parts of the country. This gives it a formal, angular feel that carries throughout the rest of the room. The use of angular forms throughout the floral designs and borders of the antique Persian Heriz Serapi rug give it a surreal quality that allows it to include elements of the natural world yet renders them in a stylistically unique manner that makes Heriz rugs easily recognized in the carpet world.
