The antique rugs from the northwest part of Persia are a special class that is highly desirable among area rug collectors and interior designers. The people occupied small weaving villages and encampments in the wilderness located central to the cities of Tabriz, Bidjar, and Tehran. This gave them a wealth of rug design patterns and weaving styles to borrow from and allowed them to incorporate a range of influences into their designs. The one thing that stands out most about this group is their uniqueness of color combinations and designs.
You will see the influences of the major weaving schools and cities that surrounded these isolated villages. They are almost too numerous to name, and many of them have been forgotten in time. They relied on only the local wools and dye plants that were available to them in their area. The area continued to experience invasions from the neighboring Turkish tribes, Kurdish tribes, and Russia. This infused an even greater range of stylistic elements into the Persian carpets.
This is a gorgeous piece with an all-over motif in brilliant colors. You can see geometric elements infused with the curvilinear designs and florals that you find in the most captivating of northwest Persian carpets. The overall feel is reminiscent of many other rugs of the people of the Caucasian mountains. It is a gorgeous piece that has a formal character, making it perfect for a traditional or modern Grand Millennial style.
This is a long and narrow gallery size rug that would be perfect for a wide hallway or to create a path in a larger room. It would accentuate larger architectural features of the space, such as a grand staircase or formal entranceway. This antique rug is elegant, but its tribal flavor also makes it perfect for a range of contemporary and classic room designs.
Interior designers often use Persian rugs as a point of contrast among contemporary furniture with simple geometric shapes and neutral colors. The colors and design of this antique north west Persian rug come together in a way that is simply breathtaking and will make a statement in any space that is large enough to accommodate it. It is a fine example of why northwest Persian rugs are some of the most collectible and desirable in the world.
