Beautiful Small Size Brown and Ivory Antique Oriental Indian Agra Rug, Origin: India, Circa: Early Part Of The 20th century – around 1900 – Here is a truly exceptional antique Oriental rug – an antique Agra rug, which was originally woven in India. Antique Indian carpets such as this charming example from Agra are prized both for their unique history and their impressive, classically beautiful designs and compositions. A tall, bold tree of life divides the field of this rug into two halves, each of which is filled by medallion-like arrays of vine scrolls in aubergine on a soft gold ground. The simpler, more open border of vine scrolls and large palmettes, featured in this brown and ivory colored antique oriental Indian Agra rug, reverses the color scheme and fine linear density of the field in a clever composition counterpoint. In the same way the blend of natural floral elements and graphic geometric abstraction in the drawing throughout the small scatter size rug also revels on the subtle play of opposites. A beautiful brown and ivory antique Oriental Indian Agra rug , is a charming example of an important and popular style and is quite a decorative piece as well.
