ANTIQUE INDIAN AMRITSAR RUG. 14 ft x 11 ft (4.27 m x 3.35 m).
Beautiful Antique Indian Amritsar Rug, Country of Origin: India, Circa Date: 1900 – This gorgeous antique Amritsar carpet from the turn of the century uses delicate colors and designs, giving it a refined, soft, and vintage feel. Amritsar is a town located in Northwestern India that is known for creating carpets with a fine weave and soft feel. This carpet would be the perfect match for contemporary designs that are inspired by spicy colors and traditional design elements.
Amritsar did not develop its signature unique style until the early 19th century. Until that time, they relied on the traditional Persian motifs and designs that were favored by the Mughal emperors. This allowed them to develop a vast repertoire of Persian motifs and stylistic elements. In the mid-19th century, they found a lucrative market in Europe and the United States. After that time, they began creating pieces that were adapted to western tastes.
What developed from this unique history is a style that is recognizably Amritsar. This carpet is an excellent example of the designs and colors of traditional Amritsar rugs. It uses a repeating all over motif that is carried out with precision. This gives it a formal appearance that is a bit on the romantic side.
