Arguably the most iconic Japanese manufacturer of diving helmets is the Yokohama Diving Apparatus Co. Ltd. Based in Yokohama, Japan this company produced helmets for over one hundred years. Many of their helmets are considered the finest constructed and designed models ever made in Japan.
<br><br>
This piece of diving history was likely made during the 1960s or 1970s. It was made for export as indicated by the ID plate in English. This incredibly rugged 4 light 12 bolt air hat model was the go to helmet for countless divers around the world. This example is presented in its original configuration with a superb consistent patina.
<br><br>
While this helmet has certainly been on a number of adventures during its working life, it is still in great condition. All four of the acrylic threaded ports are present, a Yokohama carry handle on the divers right port is intact, 12 wing nuts, four brails, copper brail shims, neck ring gasket, spring loaded safety pin, air distribution piping inside the bonnet, communications reproducer, and exhaust chin button are present. The front brails have Yokohama Diving Apparatus Co Ltd stamped into them. Approximately half of the divers rear left back brail is missing. The bonnet does feature some very shallow working dents, but none are notable or deep.

This hat has the unmistakable look and feel of a helmet that has been part of a lot of work, but was also well taken care of. This helmet would make an excellent example in any collection as one of Japan’s finest diving helmets ever produced.

All diving helmets in this auction will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Nations Attic. The certificate will have a unique number that will match the number on a tamperproof hologram decal placed inside the helmet. This information will be kept on permanent file at Nations Attic and help ensure the provenance of the helmet and authenticity. The display stand shown in the photos is not included. The option to purchase one after the auction will be provided.
